  • Oman road builders cut through 2 million cubic metres of rock to open new road
  • Muscat: A new road to Jebal Sifah was opened by Muscat Municipality officials on Thursday.

Officials at Muscat Municipality said that the new 2km stretch of road was created by cutting through 2 million cubic metres of mountain rock. “The new straight road without any dangerous curves will help the motorists to drive safely on this road,” a municipality official said.

The entire project to upgrade the Yiti-Jebal Sifah road into a modern, street-lighted carriageway is expected to be completed in last quarter of 2017.

“The Yiti-Jebal Sifah road is very important for the locals and for the Jebal Sifah project which is located 45 km from Muscat,” an official said.

Located 45 kilometres from Muscat, Jebal Sifah is a 6.2 million square meter Integrated Tourism Complex (ITC) development project which is drawing investors and tourists from all over the world. “The Yiti-Jebal Sifah road is being designed to serve as a new lifeline for this project, which is now emerging as one of the most happening tourist destination,” officials said
