  • Narrative Description of the Project:

As a result of heavy rain the Village of Aswayh was subject to flooding and the local people cut the main road (Aselah - Ras Al Had) to allow floodwater to drain to the sea more rapidly. The project comprises the study of options and subsequent design (pending) to prevent flooding of Aswayh Village and to provide a cross-drainage structure for the main road to allow proper drainage. Three "Options" were shortlisted including reinsating the existing road with box culvert for 100 cu m/sec flow as the lowest cost solution. In all cases however a protection dyke upstream of the Village was proposed. Other options for more robust cross-drainage were proposed and studied including a box culvert (50-year return period) and a bridge (100-year return period). These two options included realigning the road back from the seashore and improving the geometric aspects. (The project study is under review by the Client for a decision on the next stage forward).
