  • Narrative Description of the Project:

The project is a design/construct contract for which Renardet are the designers appointed by the Contractor (Oman United Engineering Services). The project owner is the Muscat Muncipality. The project road is a dual carriageway (2 x 2-lane) approximately 16 km long from Amerat to Yiti. The project is based on a feasibility study and concept design carried out by the Muscat Municipality/other consultant. The road passes through difficult mountainous terrain and is intended to be a high standard road (secondary road classification with a design speed of 110/90 kph. The road will form the extension of the corridor from Bousher area to Yiti via Amerat. The section Bousher to Amerat is already constructed. At the Amerat connection point there is an interchange with the Amerat -Quriyat Road under construction. To design the project a study of alignment options is in progress as the concept design alignment was found not feasible due to incorrect terrain model base data. After completion and indentification of the best alignment the detailed design will take palce. The status of the project is at the alignment study and indentification stage based on earthwork optimization, required structures and the cost of these major elements.

  • Description:

    1) Acquisition of satellite imagery and mapping (GIS data from archives)
    2) Completion of mapping by topographic survey of selected areas
    3) Verification of accuracy of GIS dat by spot check at accessible areas
    4) Study alternative alignments from imagery and mapping
    5) Make short-list of alignments for comparison
    6) Perform a preliminary hydrology study and hydraulic design concept to determine the drainage structures
    7) Preliminary cost estimate of short-listed alignments
    8) Design all necessary structures and other elements
    9) Prepare design report, detailed design, Engineers cost estimate
    10) Coordination with concerned authorities to obtain their approval on the design
