  • Narrative Description of the Project:

    The significance of the project is dictated by proving an alternative route to the existing Muscat Sur Road, saving about 150 km (about 75 minutes) of the trip travel distance (time). The importance of the project covers also from providing an access to Oman Liquefied Natural Gas (Oman LNG) project, the major national project in the Sultanate. Renardet S.A. completed a feasibility study of this road in 1997 and the project proved to be economically feasible and financially viable and hence was expected to attract many private sector investors to build the road on the basis of BOOT schemes. However, the client decided to design and construct the road from Government fund. The length of the this project is 89 km including 5 bridges, 3 underpasses and many box/pipe culverts.

    1) Detailed Topographic Survey
    2) Traffic Study
    3) Perform a hydrology study and hydraulic design to determine the drainage structures
    4) Study alternative alignment in the hilly area through aerial photographs and mapping
    5) Prepare preliminary design and tender documents
    6) Coordination with concerned authorities to obtain their approval of the design
    7) Prepare the final design and tender documents
    8) Construction supervision
