Narrative Description of the Project:

The project is located in Jabal Akhdar - Ad Dhahira Region. The proposed road to be studied lies on a rugged mountainous terrain with a peak level of 425m above sea level. The proposed road was awarded to Al Etihad Co. LLC (the Contractor) by MOTC as a design/construct project for a Lump Sum amount. The initial design submitted by the Contractor was rejected by MOTC and for that reason, MOTC recommended the services of Renardet to the Contractor.

Description:

Renardet studied/Designed the project for M/s Al Etihad Co. LLC with the following design requirements: a) Min Radius: 30m b) Max. Gradient: 16%. Based on a survey data received by Renardet from Al Etihad Co. LLC, several alternative alignments were studied and designed. The chosen alternative alignment with a length of 6,300 m was chosen for the proposal. The alternative alignment has a total of 16 hairpins with the min Radii of 30m. However, the max. vertical gradient was beyond the design criteria because there is not enough corridor in the project area to gain more length horizontally and reduce the vertical gradient. Following are the design geometries that was achieved on this alignment: a) Min. Radius: 30m b) Max. Gradient: 40%. In this study, Renardet also provided M/s Al Etihad Co. LLC with the estimates of earthwork quantities as well as the required road appurtunances for road safety. Renardet also provided Technical support to M/s Al Etihad during a meeting with the Director General of Roads & Transport of Ministry of Communications.
