  • Hydrological and Surface Study of Royal Oman Police Stations”, Sultanate of Oman
  • Objective of the project:

    The project is to provide protection against storm water action at several Royal Oman Police Station Locations to analyse the flow conditions at the various sites and propose flood protection measures to be designed and constructed.

    In order to design effective measures, detailed hydrological calculations of the properties and its upstream catchment is required. Once the flood volumes and peak discharges under various return period events are calculated, the hydraulic analysis will provide information pertaining to the flood regime under varying conditions enabling the engineers to introduce various flood protection within the water courses and study the effects of the proposals on the conveyance capacity of the systems. Locations, where the conveyance capacity of the existing systems are exceeded, would be identified and remedial measures can be investigated with the most effective recommended for design and construction.

    Scope of Work:

    The Scope of Work includes:

    • collection of historical rainfall data and wadi flow from nearby available stations;
    • determination of hydrological data gaps for surface water modelling;
    • determination of catchment areas at project locations;
    • preparation of watershed and land use maps for modelling input;
    • peak discharge estimate for 1 in 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 years return period storm;
    • preparation of flood risk map;
    • flood impact assessment on neighbouring plots due to the development of the project sites;
    • report preparation and recommendation for flood mitigation measures.
