  • Hydrological Impact Study for the Industrial Waste Treatment Facility in Sohar Project, Sultanate of Oman
  • Projection Locations:

The project is located in Free Zone 5 in Sohar

    Scope of Work:

The Scope of Work has been divided into phases as follows:

Stage 1 – Assessment of the existing hydrologic conditions

The Project Area shall encompass the central and upper catchments of Wadi Bani Umar Al Gharbi, and if required Wadi Suq, up-gradient/ upstream of the Expressway.

Carry out a hydrologic assessment of the catchment area to develop an understanding of the hydraulic mechanisms of the site and surrounding areas in terms of the following:

    1.  Design flood and flood return periods consistent with Sultanate of Oman Standards, Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources (MRMWR) and other international guidelines.
    2.  Identify sub-catchment areas and natural storm water flow paths upstream, along and downstream of the plot, and discharge points.
    3.  Identify obstructions to natural flow paths. Play particular attention to the impact of the Expressway, Railway and Dam.
    4.  Assess current flood risk of the plot and surroundings areas.
    5.  Assess groundwater levels.
    6.  Liaise with Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources (MRMWR) and obtain flood data for the site.
    7. Determine flood levels for the existing conditions within the plot and surroundings.

Stage 2 – Assessment of the post development hydrologic conditions

Include the proposed IWTF development, and carry out a hydrologic assessment of the post development conditions.

Compile all findings which should include:

    1. Description of the geological and hydrological framework of the project site.
    2. Analysis of catchment areas and generated runoff affecting the site and the wadi paths in the vicinity of the site.
